History of the Company
Founded by Georges Christian and Paul Cattin in the year 1904 in Holstein, Switzerland, and took the name Oris from a nearby brook. The company made it in history in Holstein when they became the largest employer. In good faith, Oris built houses for their staff, and true enough, they were able to expand the company by 1929 in six locations: Ziefen, Herbetswil, Courgenay, Como, Holderbank, and Holstein. In 1938, they produced their own watch escapements which resulted in them employing many watchmakers, and a majority of them are skilled which made way for them to be one of the employers to offer employment to both men and women.
In 1934, when the Swiss Watch Statute Watch was introduced, it prevented the company’s new technology for more than 30 years and in 1966 the statute was reversed. During the Second World War, probably between 1939 to 1945, the brand started supplying watches to the military. And due to World War, Oris’ production and business began to decline, and to keep the business running, they started to create alarm clocks. They are also famous for the Big Crown! Oris produced The Big Crown which made way for the brand’s popularity and is known for its pointer calendar function and noticeable oversized big crown and this is the first watch made especially for pilots. The first model of the wristwatches has a very attractive luminescent marker, unidirectional rotating bezel, and amazingly with a water-resistant case.
Come 2016, The company introduced their first bronze to remember Carl Brashear, the first African American master diver of the US Navy. And in the same year, they opened their first boutique in Switzerland and named it Maison Oris. And in 2017, the company introduced the Artelier Calibre 113 and this is the fourth highly functional watch that features a business calendar, showing the day, date, week, and month of the year. In 2018, they revealed the Big Crown ProPilot Calibre 114 with a 10 – day power reserve, a date indication and the highlight of this edition, a 24 – hour second-time zone with a half-hour indication.
1.Chrononoris Limited Edition
One of Oris’ limited edition watches, with about 200 of production only, is in remembrance of the first Chrononoris and this was the first motorsports racing watch and also the first chronograph which was introduced in 1970. This watch features stainless steel, its top glass is made of crystal on both sides and with an anti-reflective coating inside and fits your wrist with a leather strap. Works in a Swiss-automatic winding chronograph with a red rotor has a power reserve of up to 48 hours and perfectly made to work under the water of up to 10 bar. Its dial is created exactly the same as the Williams 40th Anniversary Version with a touch of vintage creation with a matte black dial with orange touches on the hour indices, the tachymeter and the seconds hand.
2.Martini Racing Limited Edition
Included as one of the best seller’s and beautifully made limited edition and produced only about 500 pieces. Oris and Williams Formula 1 Team partnered in 2003 and worked together for about 15 years and the birth of Oris Martini Racing Limited Edition is in commemoration of Williams’ principal sponsor for 50 years, the Martini Racing Team. This timepiece is created in stainless steel with a flat sapphire crystal and also with an anti-reflective coating installed internally. It works in an automatic winding movement with a chronograph function of ¼ seconds and functions with Oris Calibre 774 and 48 – hour power reserve. Probably one of the best sellers because of its elegant design and it can also work under the water of up to 100m in depth.
3.Audi Sport Black Dial
Audi Sport has chosen Oris to be its Official Timekeeper and the release of the Limited Edition Oris Audi Sport is in commemoration of their partnership which started in 2014. Let us focus on the recent Oris Audi which they released as the third segment. This limited edition is manifested with a stainless steel black DLC coating, has an anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, contains 25 jewels and works approximately for up to 48 hours. It also works under the water of up to 100m. What makes this different is that it has a date window at its 6 o’clock position.
4.Diver Sixty-Five
One of the most classic designs of the brand, they initially designed an Oris diver before. And this Diver Sixty – Five is an upgraded vintage type with a retro construction. This is a perfect combination of a modern and vintage design dive watch with a rotor–less movement that works with a special thin case back design. This limited edition watch can offer up to 100m of water-resistant and can be protected by its anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. This timepiece is a must-have.
