Steps to Recover a Stained Mattress

We use our mattresses daily. A lot of things fall on our mattresses accidentally, causing stains. One cannot just throw away the mattress. Prior instead try to remove the stain on the mattress. It’s not only about cleaning the stains. Mattresses receive all our dead skin cells, dust mites, dirt, sweat, and whatnot. We hence must air them regularly and keep them clean. Though furniture rental has made things and getting rid of a defective furniture easier, mattress still require a great deal of patience and care.

So, here are a few tips that will help you clean the stains on your mattress and keep it in a good condition

  • Vacuum the mattress thoroughly

This is the most important step in cleaning the stain. Vacuum the mattress thoroughly. Without vacuuming it, a lot of dust and debris would still be left on the mattress. Follow the following steps while vacuuming:

  1. Attach an upholstery to your vacuum.
  2. Now, go to and fro, width-wise, vacuuming the entire mattress thoroughly.

3 . You must also vacuum the hard to reach spots on the mattress such as the indentations, crevices, and embroidery.

  1. Now, vacuum the backside of the mattress.
  • Spot clean to remove the stain

Spot cleaning can be done in various ways. It depends on the type of stain and the ingredients you are using to clean the stained spot. The methods mentioned below are expected to be effective in removing almost every type of stain, be it urine, coffee or oil spills, sweat, or blood.

  1. Take a liquid dishwashing soap and mix it with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Take the mixture in a spray bottle. Spray a good amount of it and rub the affected area using a clean piece of cloth.
  1. You can also use natural, non-chemical enzyme cleaners which will disintegrate the stain, making it easier for you to remove.
  1. Homeowners can also prepare a paste of salt and lemon juice. Apply the mixture to the stain and keep it for about an hour. Now, clean the stain using a clean towel.
  • Deodorize with baking soda

After you have cleaned the stain partially or completely, you must sprinkle some baking soda on it. Keep it like that for a day. The longer the baking soda is allowed to remain, the more will it absorb the remaining stain and odour, thus cleaning it better. After deodorising, you must disinfect that area. It would eliminate the remaining bacteria or contaminants.

  • Air your mattress outside

Probably the best thing to keep the mattress from becoming soggy or damp is keeping them in sunlight and fresh air. We know that carrying such heavy mattresses every day isn’t a possible task. But if you can keep them in fresh air and sunlight once every week, it’s the best thing to keep bacteria away and retain their good quality.

If your mattress doesn’t have a cover, buy it immediately. The cover provides sufficient defense against bacteria, dirt, and dust, keeping the mattress inside in good condition. Also, you can uncover the mattress and wash the cover in the washing machine easily. Nowadays, even waterproof mattresses on rent are available at affordable costs.
